- What is mentoring?
The purpose of mentoring is to support and encourage people to manage their own learning in order that they may maximise their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be. A mentor shares knowledge, skills and experience to enable the young person to achieve agreed goals.
- What is E-mentoring?
E-mentoring is an interactive process by which one person assists another to grow and learn in a safe and supportive relationship using electronic communication.
- The Aim Higher Suffolk E-Mentor Scheme
Enterprise Lowestoft will deliver the Aim Higher Suffolk e-mentoring scheme to identified young people from secondary and FE establishments, who may be in danger of not achieving their full potential. The mentors will be undergraduate students from nearby universities bordering Suffolk (or FE colleges with HE provision).
The scheme aims to:
- Raise their standards of performance and
improve their goals
- Raise their awareness of the opportunities
that HE will offer them
- Recognise that HE is possible, affordable,
exciting and enjoyable
- Acquire and develop study skills in order to improve their application to their studies
- Draw up targeted action plans
- Develop and improve their self-esteem, motivation, confidence, persistence, application and time management
